Here's the deal--we started this new church thing because we wanted to remain a church family. Spiritual dryness had taken a toll on many of us and we didn't want to scatter in every which direction. A few others saw what we were doing and wanted to be a part of it. Things fell into place and before we knew it we were up and running. We believe that all of this was the hand of God--we have no other fitting explanation.
We decided on the Anglican Way for a variety of reasons. Most notably, we wanted to remain faithful to the Bible, yet we also valued the Great Tradition. Folks who are
very protestant may think that we're a little too catholic; those who are
very catholic might think that we're a little too protestant. I'm not sure what to do about that--it's just the way things are.
We have not followed the trajectory of religious liberalism, but the word
fundamentalism doesn't describe us, either. We're not trying to be
centrists--we're trying to be
faithful. The best way to get a glimpse of what we're all about it to worship with
us. Folks who were not used to revivalist hymns and contemporary worship songs are realizing that they're quite catchy and have good messages in them. Others who were not used to liturgy and frequent holy communion are seeing that God's Spirit works through them after all. Perhaps some elements of our church will seem normal to you; some others may at first appear a bit bumpy. Most of us know what that's like, and its okay.
But don't forget--we're still church planting. We're a bit like that store that's in business but remodeling (you know, the kind that has that 'Pardon Our Appearance--Still Remodeling' sign out). Naturally, some things may be
untidy (which is not the same as
sloppy). We still have growing to do, as God is still working on us.
If you're wondering, "Is there a place for me?" we invite you to worship with us, grow with us, be challenged with us, and be touched by God's Spirit with us. I'm not sure what it is that you seek, but through the prophet Jeremiah, God told his people, "You will seek me and find me. When you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you" (29:13-14a). Perhaps Trinity Anglican is the place where this will happen.
